St Martins School visit
a special ‘Meet the Community’ visit from St Martins School on October 23rd 2024…
We were delighted to be hosts and tour guides for a group of students from St Martins school last week. The students were eager to find out about their local town, and our very own Paul and Svitlana took them around.
First stop was the Memorial Hall, to see how this historic community venue is undergoing a bit of a relaunch and revamp to make space for even more community groups and clubs.
The students spent time with the ladies from the regular Wednesday Country Market, checking out the home grown, home made produce, and having a go at needlework, pyrography and eating cake!
Next stop was the neighbouring M&S store, where Operations manager Jonathan gave the gang a ‘behind the scenes’ tour, which included the walk-in freezers at -19 degree! A fascinating peek into the world of a busy world-famous retail business.
A walk through the town centre gave the students a chance to see many of Oswestry’s local independent businesses. A spot of Welsh language and culture at England’s only Welsh book shop, Siop Cwlwm was followed by a visit to Oswestry Indoor Market, to check out some stalls, and say ‘Hi’ to Karen and Kate at Oswestry Visitor Centre.
Before heading back, the St Martins gang stopped off for lunch at OsNosh. Here they saw how the surplus food (Jonathan had mentioned at M&S) came to OsNosh and became the ingredients of a hot tasty nutritious meal for visitors to the OsNosh cafe. Just another example of Oswestry’s community in action, inspiring the youngsters to get more involved with their local community!
