AICO Project SOS

When AICO said they wanted to help us refurbish our large Oswald room, as their 2024 Project SOS community project, we fell off our chairs!

Each day during the week commencing 4th November, the amazing folk from AICO will bring a handful of willing volunteers from their staff and contract resource to OMH, on a mission to decorate our main Oswald room.

The Oswald room has been looking a bit tired and unloved for some time having last been refurbished over 20 years ago! As OMH has become more of a thriving community venue in recent months, new clubs and groups have added to the wear and tear!

Many of the OMH community of users are helping with the refurbishment. Some have kindly postponed sessions to give us more decorating time. Some groups and local businesses are helping with the cost of materials and equipment, and all will be acknowledged in a new ‘Hall of Fame’ to be displayed after the decorating is done. Special thanks must go to Oswestry Lions though, for their generous offer to cover our main material costs. The Town Mayor Mike Isherwood has a special OMH fundraising programme this year, and some of the money raised through this will help new groups access and benefit from the refurbished hall. Volunteers

Its not just groups and clubs getting involved. We also have some fantastic volunteers; we call them our Project SOS Heroes! and leading this pack will be the amazing Jay Moore and Lee Johnson, who are stepping up to design, plan and manage the refurbishment.

BUT, WE REALLY NEED MORE HELP PLEASE !

We would love some advice and support from local trades and tradesmen/women - even just an hour to help us with product choice, practical advice or training! Budding DIYers with a little time to spare will be richly rewarded with tea, coffee cake and heaps of thanks!

Interested, or want to help… pop along to Oswestry Memorial Hall any day this week to find out more and put your name down for our Project SOS week.

  • Pop in to OMH from Mon 28th Oct - Fri 1st Nov (8am-5pm) to find out more about our plans for the Oswald room. We’d love to hear any stories you have from the hall, and get your ideas and input as to how we should decorate the space, honour the history, and also bring a modern energy to the room.

We’d love to see you for a brew and a chat !

  • Week commencing the 4th November we’ll be cleaning, preparing, panelling and painting. If that sounds like your cup of tea, we would be so grateful of your help. register with us during our design and prep week if you can… THANKYOU!

  • Working with local artists and groups like Designs in Mind and Love Oswestry, we aim to add colour and interest to the Oswald room by updating the stories that currently adorn the walls. Using old and new material, we’ll be bringing the fantastic story of the hall through its 119 years bang up to date. We expect this work to take place over the coming months - so watch our bright newly painted space for more details and opportunities to share your stories and designs.

The Oswald room at OMH … in need of some TLC!
